What Does It Take to Build a High Performance Team?

In every task completed successfully, there is a team that worked hard for it. Companies need strong teams that are motivated so they can perform well in their tasks and become efficient. Teams are most likely to be successful in a supportive working environment, where everyone feels good about working with one another.

To survive in this market, high performance teams are being sought after by most companies for work efficiency and productivity. Most companies who are in tight competition with others invest on teams to get each work done. Some key points in engaging the team to work in high performance level include trust, on-going skill training, regrouping and refocusing.

High performance teams are different from effective teams, as they are the ones who break limitations, salvage organizations from the precipice of failure and deliver projects successfully even with seemingly impossible deadlines. Factors affecting the creation of a high performance team can be generally summarized into three. These are common mission, role designation, and accountability.

A
high performance team
should have a mission that is common to all members. Any kind of task assigned or handled is integrated by a mission or a statement of purpose that provides a sense of direction. It also reflects shared values among members such as honesty and the kind of stakeholders the organization is comprised of.

Creating high performance teams
can also be affected by role designation. When it comes to designation, employees’ assets must be analyzed. These assets can be determined based on the results of desired work – when you assign an employee to an area of his/her primary strength. Such technique can improve the effectiveness of a team in at least ten percent minimum rate. Role designation also implies accepted and competent leadership to keep the members on the right track.

Accountability can further
improve company performance
. Assessment of collective and individual accountability can be made through quantitative such as task-related statistics and qualitative methods like development reviews. Feedbacks regarding this factor should be made on a regular basis, with schedules agreed upon by all members. Other key points to consider regarding building high performance teams may include excellent communication and solid relationships.
